Zombieland: Double Tap Excites Los Angeles Comic Con

What seemed to be one of the largest turnouts for a panel this year at Los Angeles Comic Con, the Zombieland: Double Tap panel did not disappoint. In attendance was director Ruben Fleischer, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and cast members Zoey Deutch (Madison), Rosario Dawson (Nevada), Avon Jorgia (Berkeley), and Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus). The group was met with tremendous applause as they came out to discuss the much anticipated sequel ten years in the making.

When asked about why he wanted to make a sequel to Zombieland, Ruben Fleischer said that he made the call to do a sequel because the first film had been one of his most successful. He had a string of decently received films, but nothing compared to the love the original Zombieland received. And Fleischer would have made the film sooner, but writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were working on Deadpool andDeadpool 2, so they were a little busy. After 10 years, though, the story is still important to the writers. They don’t want to make a sequel for the sake of making a sequel. They “didn’t want to make anything that would let people down”. And, from the looks of the previews that were shown, it seems that they’ve made another winner.

We were lucky enough to be introduced to two new characters with footage from the film. First was Rachel Deutch as Madison. Deutch grew up in the San Fernando Valley and used the “valley girl” accent to her comedic advantage. Rosario Dawson’s character, Nevada, was up next, and from what we saw, she is sure to be a badass. Avon Jogia spoke a bit about his character, Berkeley, and how much he enjoyed working with Abigail Breslin.  In regards to his character, Jogia had this to say: “He’s a phony. And it was really fun. I get to be a bit of a douche, so that’s great.”

To end on a high note, members of the panel picked people from the audience to attend the screening of the film that night at LA Live. The crowd was in an uproar, as everyone wanted the opportunity to see an early screening of Fleischer’s new film. 8 lucky people got to attend. As for the rest of us, we have a couple more days to wait.
