Lead 2017 Pack with Most Nominations
Hollywood recycling reached an all-time high in 2017. Of the 100 biggest-grossing films released last year, at least 87 were either sequels, remakes or outright rip-offs of previous product. That toxic-level lack of originality is reflected in nominations for this year’s 38th Annual Golden Raspberry (Razzie®) Awards.
Leading this year’s list of movie-misfires are the umpteenth Transformers Sequel “Dark Knight,” the more-soporific-than-sexy Fifty Shades Darker and the redundantly dunder-headed Tom Cruise remake of The Mummy. Acting contenders include Cruise, Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Watson. A complete list of this year’s nominees is included with this press release, and is also available at razzies.com.
The video announcing our nominees will be available at Razzie Channel after 12:00am/PST January 22. “Winners” of this year’s tackiest Tinsel Town trophy will be revealed on Saturday, March 3 – the now traditional day before the 90th Annual Giving Out of the Little Gold Naked Men.
Voting Razzie Members (1,009 film buffs, entertainment journalists and other strongly opinionated movie goers from 49 US States and 25 foreign countries) cast their ballots online, selecting five final contenders in nine categories.
