Los Angeles, CA – Leading with the mission, “Creators Wanted,” the #1 web comic app, Webtoon, have crowned Cape of Spirits the winner of their fourth Creator Contest! Selected from almost 7000 entries over the past five months, Cape of Spirits, is a fantasy action series created by Kristina N. and Elie – written by Kristina N. ten years ago but shelved because she loved the characters but could not develop the story until Elie came along. Cape of Spirits is the story of the videogame within the story of the popular Webtoon Discover series, Fictional Skin – 226,000 subscribers, 88 episodes with more than 16.7 million reads since summer of 2016. Cape of Spirits boasts more than 1.9 million views, with more than 15,000 likes per episode and 179,000 subscribers in just eight episodes!

From Kristina: “This is something I never thought I would experience in my lifetime. I’m incredibly thankful for Webtoon for making this contest an opportunity that created an exciting shift in my life.
Cape of Spirits was not supposed to happen so soon, since I wanted to finish Fictional Skin first. But circumstances made it otherwise, and I think I wouldn’t have changed anything about it. Cape of Spirits was created from the necessity of creating a fake JRPG video game for my Fictional Skin characters to play. It wasn’t meant to be a legitimate story until recently, and I found myself combining every single self-indulgent action/fantasy trope I enjoyed in my childhood into one story.
However, I wouldn’t be able to come this far without the help of my amazing friend and writer, Elie. I can’t believe we actually got to work together on something that evolved from a spontaneous brainstorming session during a late-night boba run. We are both incredibly proud and excited to show what we have in store for the future of Cape of Spirits and we hope you can join in our journey!”
Elie’s reaction: “I am at a loss for words. I’m so extremely grateful to everyone who has been involved in this process; everyone who has helped to shape me as a creative. About the Creators:
Kristina N. is an illustrator living in California, who enjoys eating good food and being a hermit with her dog. Previously a concept and background artist, she is now pursuing her dream to become a comic artist.
Elie is a Hawaii-born writer, currently working with games in Korea. She loves cats, magical girls, milk tea, and burgers, and often draws or plays games in her free time. As comics have always been a big part of her life, having the opportunity to make one with one of her favorite artists and closest friends has been an incredible experience.
The global leader in web comics, Webtoon, make it a priority to find more storytellers. Utilizing this fourth “Discover Creator” contest as a call to action, the contest began on June 11 receiving almost 7000 entries over the three month submission period, selecting the EIGHT best stories to advance to round 2 – each quarterfinalist was awarded $5000 AND joined Webtoon for the exclusive Green Room Party at New York Comic Con. TWO stories were selected from each Genre – Thriller/Horror, Comedy/Slice,
Fantasy/Sci-fi/Action, and Drama/Romance. On November 5, FOUR Genre Winners (ONE from each category) were selected to advance to the final and collect an additional $25,000. The contest ended on November 12 with Cape of Spirits the Grand Prize Winner, winning another $50,000 (bringing their earnings to $80,000) and an invitation to become a featured title on Webtoon.
